PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a microlens array which satisfies the condensing properties and which maintains an enough numerical aperture by forming a microlens having a square bottom face in contact with a substrate in such a manner that the ratio of the radius of curvature in the direction between the opposite sides is in a specified range to the radius of curvature in the diagonal direction of the lens. SOLUTION: The microlens array has the structure of the microlens having a square bottom face in contact with a substrate 1 in such a manner that the ratio of the radius of curvature in the direction between the opposite sides O-B to the radius of curvature in the diagonal direction O-A ranges >=0.8 and <=0.98. By specifying the ratio of in the direction between the opposite sides O-B to that the radius of curvature in the diagonal direction O-A to >=0.8 and <=0.98, the lens has the same radius of curvature in any direction from the center of the lens, and as a result, the light condensing function of the lens is enhanced and the condensing properties can be improved. Since the substantial quantity of light entering an image display device such as a liquid crystal panel or a photographing device such as a CCD is increased, the numerical aperture can be improved.
