PURPOSE: To prevent the vaporization of Na2 O as a constituent component of a cylindrical β-alumina compact and to industrially produce a β-alumina tube having stable quality. CONSTITUTION: When a bottomed cylindrical β-alumina compact 10 for a sodium-sulfur cell is fired, a vessel 11 made of MgO of 99-99.9% purity is set around the compact 10 in a close state and then the compact 10 is fired. |
