PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To effectively utilize VBI data by providing a video object unit with control information and video data and providing film/camera information showing the type of video material and status information showing whether or not its contents are effective as for a video object including the control information. SOLUTION: In an example of letter box type video, an effective video inside refers to an actually displays video inside, and an effective video outside refers to a part that is displayed in black outside video. A film/camera mode is effective such as when an analog video signal or digital video data outputted from an optical disk recording and reproducing device in encoded again in another recorder. That is, in a video object unit VOBU that is subjected to video recording by the optical disk recording and reproducing device, a film mode is set in a VOBU corresponding to a movie program, and also, a camera mode is set in a VOBU corresponding to a CM program.
