摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a magnetooptical recording medium where information can securely be recorded with a low recording magnetic field. SOLUTION: The magnetooptical recording medium 100 has a reproduction layer 3, a recording layer 4, and an auxiliary magnetic layer 7 on a substrate 1. The auxiliary magnetic layer 7 has such magnetic characteristics that perpendicular magnetic anisotropic energy and anti-magnetic field energy are nearly equal to each other under a condition of irradiation with recording light. Consequently, when the recording magnetic field is applied for information recording, the magnetization of the auxiliary magnetic layer 7 is inverted before the magnetization of the recording layer 4 is inverted. The magnetization of the recording layer 4 is easily inverted with the exchange coupling force from the magnetization of the auxiliary magnetic layer 7 which is inverted earlier and the recording magnetic field. Information can, therefore, be recorded easily and surely even with a low recording magnetic field.
