PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a polymer insulator capable of exhibiting voltage withstand performance of a high degree without using a seal material and without lowering connection strength between a rod-like core and joints. SOLUTION: This polymer insulator 10 is equipped with the electrically insulating rod-like core 12 having joints 14 fixed thereto at both longitudinal ends and an electrically insulating covering member 16 covering an outer surface of the core 12. The member 16 is equipped with five shed portions 24 integrally molded with its tubular portion 22. The portion 22 of the member 16, at both longitudinal ends, has tubular seal portions 26 which present, when they are not deformed, a first bore smaller than the smallest thickness of fixed parts 18 of the two joints 14. The portions 26 stick fast to outer surfaces of the fixed parts of the two joints 14 under a compressing pressure enough to display a desired seal effect, thereby fixedly disposing the member 16 on the outer surface of the core 12.
