PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent occurrence of damages and breakage of respective members at an end of a ceramic discharge tube and leakage of an ionized luminescent substance due to heat cycles, even if lighting-lighting off is repeated multiple times in a sealing structure of the end of the ceramic discharge tube. SOLUTION: This high-pressure discharge lamp is provided with a ceramic discharge tube 11, filled with an ionized luminescent substance and a starting gas in its inside space, a closing material 14 having at least a part thereof fixed inside an end of the discharge tube 11 and having a through-hole 14a formed, a current conductor 7 with an electrode system 9 inserted into the through-hole 14a of the closing material 14, and a sealing material layer 16A formed so as to be jointed to the closing material 14 excluding the through-hole 14a and the current conductor 7. By virtue of such a structure, large residual stress will not be generated in the center axis direction of the ceramic discharge tube by baking and contraction of a baked body of the closing material.
