PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To assure brightness and image quality and to make accuracy higher and a size smaller by adopting the constitution obtained by interposing multilayered dielectric films between first and second optical members etc., and interposing the at least one second optical member between the first optical member and the third optical member. SOLUTION: This optical element is provided with the optical member 22 adjacently to a prism 23 and another prism 23 is arranged adjacently to the surface on the reflection side of the optical member 22. The each other's adjacent parts are held by interposing holding members 26, such as UV effect adhesives or thermosetting adhesives, in such a manner that the adjacent or each other's positions do not move with each other. The multilayered dielectric films 25 are interposed only between the one prism 23 and the optical member 22. As a result, strains are absorbed between the optical member 22 and the adhesives with respect to the stress and strain of the prism 23 itself, the stress and strain of the multilayered dielectric films 25 themselves by the curing of the adhesives and the strain by a temperature change, by which the improvement in the accuracy of the image quality performance is made possible.
