PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain high transmittance for light and a wide viewing angle without depending on the accuracy of lamination with a counter substrate. SOLUTION: A liquid crystal layer 32 is held between an array substrate 1 and a counter substrate 2. A large number of pixel electrodes 7 are formed on the array substrate 1, and an insulating layer 9 is formed under the pixel electrodes 7. A recessed inclined part 8 is formed in the insulating layer 9 beneath each pixel electrode 7. The insulating layers under the pixel electrodes adjacent to each other are overlapped by a specified width in the edge part of each pixel electrode to form a protruded inclined part 12. By the inclined part 8 and the inclined part 12, the tilt direction of the liquid crystal molecules is determined and the molecules are divided as aligned. |
