PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a flashing discharge lamp capable of enduring extreme large number of times of discharge at a high voltage, for instance, two millions of shots at a use voltage of around 1,500 V by reinforcing the fixing of an electrode to an electrode mandrel and by reducing the scattering of an emitter material in electrode manufacturing and in lamp usage. SOLUTION: In this flashing discharge lamp 1, having an electrode 3 formed by sintering high-melting point metal material powder, the electrode 3 is formed into a multi-tier layered structure, wherein an emitter mixture layer 31 comprising mixture powder of the high-melting point metal material powder and barium oxide based emitter material powder, an emitter/nickel composite layer 32 comprising a mixed powder of the high-melting point metal material powder, barium oxide based emitter material powder and nickel powder, and a nickel mixture layer 33 comprising mixture powder of the high-melting point metal material powder and nickel powder are stacked in that order from the tip side of the electrode 3. The electrode 3 is fixed to an electrode mandrel 4 by sintering it.
