PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To stabilize focus control even when the influence of crossing a groove is large and to improve reliability by reducing control the gain of a focus control section to a prescribed value when a signal detected by a groove crossing quantity detecting section is larger than a prescribed level, and reducing rotation speed of information carrier by a rotation part to a prescribed value. SOLUTION: When a focus error signal exceeds a prescribed value decided by a groove crossing deciding section 26, a microcomputer 40 which receives the decision result by the groove crossing deciding section 26 reduces an amplifrication factor of a first gain adjusting section 28. Consequently, current flowing in a focus actuator 10 is reduced. Thereby, the damage of the actuator 10 can be prevented. Simultaneously, the computer 40 outputs a rotation speed decreasing command to a disk motor control section 31 as well, to reduce the output signals of the control section 31 and a disk motor driving circuit 33. Consequently, the increase of focus control residue with respect to the wobbling of the surface of an optical disk 36 can be suppressed.
