The roller comprises a unitary roller mantle 11 consisting of composite material and also axle journals 12, connected to the respective ends of the roller mantle 11 and rotating with the roller mantle. The axle journals 12 are supported by at least two bearing means 14, 15 placed by a supporting means 13 surrounding the axle journal 12 at a distance from each other in the axial direction X-X, said supporting means 13 again being supported at the machine frame construction R. The first bearing means 14, 15 is supported by the supporting means 13 by means of a bending mechanism 20, 21, by means of which a force acting in the radial direction is being directed towards the first bearing means 14, 15 in order to decouple the first bearing means 14, 15 relative to the centre line X-X of the unbent roller, whereby the axle journal 12 is bent relative to a joint point formed at the second bearing means 14, 15, and a bending moment is directed to the roller mantle 11. <IMAGE>
