PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enhance the adhesion between a lubricant and a protection film while keeping the lubricating effect for a long period of time by holding the lubricant containing a compound obtained by reacting a bifunctional perfluoropolyether having carboxyl groups at both ends with an amine and a branched chain carboxylic acid monoester on the uppermost layer of the protection film which is formed on a nonmagnetic support and the surface of which is top-coated with an aromatic carboxylic acid. SOLUTION: This magnetic recording medium has a lubricant containing a compound obtained by reacting a bifunctional perfluoropolyether with an amine and shown by formula I and the branched chain carboxylic acid monoester shown by formula II. In the formulae, Rf is a perfluoropolyether chain; R1-R4 are each hydrogen atom or a hydrocarbon group; RI and RII are each an alkyl group; (m)>=2; (n)>=4 and (m)+(n)<=30. The aromatic carboxylic acid to be used at the top-coating work is phthalic acid, benzoic acid, salicylic acid or the like. Excellent traveling property and durability can be realized in the magnetic recording medium having the carbon protection film formed by the CVD method. |
