PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide base paper for photographic printing paper capable of suppressing the permeation of a developing solution from a cut section with productivity enhanced by the improvement of water drip on wires in a producing step. SOLUTION: The base paper for photographic printing paper contains at least polyamide polyamine epichlorohydrin, an alkyl ketene dimer and 0.01-0.2 wt.% chain structure type anionic colloidal silica based on the amount of absolute dry pulp. Preferably the base paper further contains 0.01-0.2 wt.% cationic and/or amphoteric polyacrylamide having an average molecular weight of >=2,500,000 based on the amount of absolute dry pulp.
