PURPOSE: An ATM(Asynchronous Transmission Mode) interface device is provided to execute an interface operation regardless of kinds of ATM by performing an interface function between a physical layer chip and a CPU. CONSTITUTION: A dual port memory(3) is used for reading and writing data according to an ATM cell. A hardware device(1) is used for performing a function of a physical layer and supporting a UTOPIA(Universal Test and Operations PHY Interface for ATM) interface. An ATM adaptation interface portion(2) is used for storing the ATM cell from the hardware device(1) into the dual port memory(3) or transferring the dual port memory(3) to the hardware device(1). A CPU(5) is operated by an operating system for performing an AAL(ATM Adaptation Layer) function and an ATM function. The CPU(5) is used for performing an SAR(Segmentation And Reassembly) function.
