The stable and non-hygroscopic salts of L-carnitine or lower alkanoyl-L-carnitine with 2-aminoethanesulfonic acid, of formula (I), are suitable for preparing solid compositions useful as dietary/nutritional supplements for human use and as fodder supplement for veterinary purposes. In formula (I), R is acetyl, propionyl, butyryl, valeryl or isovaleryl.
