PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain outgoing light fixedly modulated at a desired time duty. SOLUTION: This optical modulator is provided with a 1/2-wavelength filter 2 having an optical isotropy in a prescribed facial direction and an optical anisotropy in the thickness direction crossing the facial direction and a rotary disk 1 holding the filter 2 freely rotated and driven in a circular transfer course along the facial direction and a position at which polarized light 4 is made incident and emitted is set on the circular transfer course. Thereby, the emitted light is fixedly modulated at a desired time duty.
