The knife positioner (10) includes a first part which buts axially onto a counter cutter. A second part is fixed to the first part so as to define a reference position which allows positioning of the knife with respect to its associated counter cutter. Adjustment of the axial end position of a knife (20) is done using an inductive or laser sensor before the knife is fixed on the first shaft. The film cutting knife positioner (10) positions the knife (20) with respect to a counter cutter (30) in a film cutter containing a number of knives and counter cutters. The knives (20) are mounted on a first shaft (40) having an axis and are displaced along the first shaft. The counter cutters are mounted on a second shaft (50) which is parallel to the first.
