The inspection system is used to determine the light transmission characteristics of the bottles (2) material and includes: - a spectro-photometer (3) having: - a light source (4) producing a beam (L) of a given wavelength, designed to pass through a wall (P) of the bottle in a set measuring zone (Z); - an optical receiver (13) designed to be fitted inside the bottle (2) and placed opposite the light source (4) so as to collect the light beam crossing through the zone (Z); - means for analyzing the beam collected by the receiver (13) so as to determine the light energy for each of a range of set wavelengths. - a device (24) for measuring the thickness of the bottle wall (P), see Fig.2, in the zone (Z); - a processing unit (26) connected to the spectro-photometer (3) and to the thickness measuring device (24) which determines the light transmission characteristics of the bottles (2) material.
