PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve luminance and to enhance display quality. SOLUTION: An envelope is formed with face glass 20, a base board 22 and a side glass 24, and its inside is set in a vacuum condition. On the base board 22, an insulation layer is provided on a wiring layer, and a conductive layer is formed to which a current is carried from the insulation layer via through-holes and which functions as a positive electrode. A phosphor layer is formed on its surface so that a display part is formed. A grid 36 for receiving the application of a negative voltage is composed between filaments 34 for emitting thermoelectrons, colliding against the phosphor layer and the face glass 20 so that the thermoelectrons emitted from the filaments 34 can be moved in the direction of the phosphor layer 32.
