The invention relates to a gas fluidized bed polymerization of olefins, especially of ethylene, propylene or a mixture thereof with other olefins, wherein the recycle gas containing the monomer employed to fluidize the bed is cooled in order to condense out at least a certain liquid hydrocarbon. The condensed liquid, which can be a monomer or an inert liquid, is separated from the recycle gas and is fed directly to the bed to produce the cooling by latent heat of evaporation. The liquid feeding the bed can be introduced directly through atomizing nozzles or through common nozzles. The process provides substantially improved levels of productivity of fluidized bed polymerization of olefins.
