PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming device and an image forming method capable of always stopping document scanning means at an appropriate position even when braking amount is changed due to the temperature rise or the secular change of a motor and also contributing to the miniaturization of an equipment main body. SOLUTION: Since the moving distance of a scanning optical system per pulse outputted from a rotary encoder is a constant absolute distance regardless of the temperature rise, the moving distance per (a) seconds is calculated from the counted number of pulses. The counted number (b) equivalent to a distance that the optical system reaches a stop impossible area is previously set. When the counted number becomes equal to or above the set number (step S7), feedback is performed so that back speed is decreased by previously set X% at a step S8, and next scanning is started.
