PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a detector having a simple structure suited for detecting angles within a limited range of angles that corresponds to less than one turn. SOLUTION: This angle detector includes an arcuate sensor rod 4 disposed to describe an arc with a predetermined radius with respect to a rotating shaft 1 and provided with a magnetism-responsive substance in a predetermined configuration, and a sensor head 5 disposed to describe an arc with a predetermined radius with respect to the rotating shaft and disposed to approach the rod 4. One of the rod 4 and the head 5 is mounted to make arcuate movement as the rotating shaft 1 rotates, while the other of the rod 4 and the head 5 is fixed in a predetermined position. The relative position of the magnetism- responsive substance to the coil is determined according to the relative position of the rod 4 to the head 5, and an output proportional thereto is generated from the coil, to detect rotating angles within a limited range of angles that corresponds to the length of the arc of the sensor rod.
