PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent the reception of an unwanted fax. SOLUTION: When a call arrives, a fax controller 50 inquires the caller number from a 'black list' 70 of callers who are stored in a memory 60 and whose calls should be blocked and rejects the connection when the caller's number is included in the black list. The controller 50 also monitors the incoming call, obtains the frequency, date, time and number of pages of the caller during the prescribed period to store them in a frequency list 74, also decides a use value expressing the degree of the unwanted call by combining them, and adds the caller number to the list 70, when the use value surpasses a threshold. Thus, an unwanted fax from a caller in the black list is prevented from being received. Also, a fax of a caller number stored in a confidential list 72 is received, and also, a fax of a caller number stored in an alert list 76 is subjected to a processing, such as transfer of an emergency message.
