PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming device where the state of contact of a transfer member with an image carrier can be recognized in a simple constitution. SOLUTION: In this device, the transfer belt 8 is brought into contact with all of the multiple number of photoreceptor drums 1 and at the same time, a 1st mode to form a multi color image by having the multiple number of transfer members 5 brought into contact with the belt 8 and a 2nd mode where a specified image is formed by having the transfer carrying belt 8 brought into contact with one of the above mentioned multiple number of photoreceptor drums while having the belt 8 separated from the other photoreceptor drums and at the same time, having the above mentioned multiple number of transfer members 5 brought into contact with the belt 8 are provided. In this case, a discriminating means to discriminate the state of contact of the transfer carrying belt 8 to the photoreceptor drum 1 by detecting current value that is fed when voltage is applied to the transfer members 5 is provided.
