PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a thin film magnetic head capable of optimally controlling a magnetic flux flowing from the yoke part of a magnetic layer to a magnetic pole part and its manufacturing method. SOLUTION: A non-magnetic material area 200 is disposed at a position near an upper part magnetic pole tip part 23a in an upper part magnetic pole 23 in the recording head part of this thin film magnetic head. The non-magnetic material are 200 is constituted of a through-hole 23H and a non-magnetic material 26N buried in the through-hole 23H and is positioned at the center part in a width direction of an overwrite improving part 23A. The non-magnetic material area 200 controls the flow of the magnetic flux flowing through a magnetic flux convergence part 23B to the upper part magnetic pole tip part 23a.
