PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device, capable of picking up images by an optimum exposure value in a short time by outputting the charge storage time of a solid-state image pickup element, corresponding to either ones of respectively specified first and second brightness data. SOLUTION: Based on the output from an integration part 5 obtained by image pickup in first charge storage time set, based on second data corresponding to the charge storage time in a first image-pickup period, the first brightness data are obtained from first data corresponding to the brightness of an object. Based on the output from the integration part 5 obtained by image pickup in a second charge storage time set, based on the other data different from the first charge storage time of the second data in a second image-pickup period following the first image-pickup period, the second brightness data are obtained from the first data. Then, the charge storage time of the solid-state image pickup element 1 is outputted corresponding to either ones of the first and second brightness data. An arithmetic means 6 is provided for outputting the charge storage time of the solid-state image pickup element 1.
