PROCESS FOR THE PREPARATION OF 3-PENTENOIC ACID AND/OR ESTER THEREOF STARTING FROM BUTADIENE

Process for the preparation of 3-pentenoic acid and/or ester thereof starting from butadiene, wherein the process comprises the following steps : (a) reacting butadiene with a hydroxy group containing compound into an allylic compound, (b) separating the allylic compound from the reaction mixture obtained in step (a), (c) carbonylating the allylic compound in the presence of carbon monoxide and an alcohol and/or water using a rhodium containing catalyst and an iodine promotor whereby the carbonylation and/or carbonylation product recovery is performed in the presence of at least one stabilizer compound selected from a compound of an element of any of the groups 1-2 of the Periodic Table, a first row transition metal compound of any of the groups 3-12 of the Periodic Table, a compound of an element of group 13 of the Periodic Table, a compound of an element of group 15 of the Periodic Table, a rhenium compound, an iridium compound, a platinum compound and a cerium compound.
