<p>A part of a storage medium capacity is reserved as an adjustment capacity for use as a target-exceeding adjustment for a target code amount in a fixed-length compression. A nominal remaining number of frames calculated by subtracting the adjustment capacity from a remaining capacity is displayed as a remaining number of frames of the storage medium to thereby prevent the remaining number of frames from being displayed with irregular variations. A target exceeding for a compression code amount is allowed to accommodate the fraction of a remaining capacity (predicted capacity value in a remaining region) to thereby make possible a planned reduction in a remaining region.</p>
