Vaporizing or quenching a liquid involves passing a mixture of the liquid and a gas through a vaporizer unit (1) made of tubes (2, 4, 6) inserted into each other. The mixture is initially passed through the central inner tube (2) and then through the annular gaps (3, 5) formed by neighboring tubes up to the outermost gap before leaving the vaporizer unit.
