<p>A sealless die assembly (102) for a test instrument for measuring the properties of viscoelastic materials. The die assembly includes a seal ring (230) having at least a portion formed of a bearing material, which provides a seal between a die plate (126) and a sealing plate (210). The seal ring (230) separates the die plate (126) from the sealing plate (210), and allows the die plate (126) to freely rotate relative to the sealing plate (210). The configuration of the die assembly in accordance with the present invention significantly reduces the need for recalibration and maintenance of the test instrument, by eliminating the need for an elastomeric seal in the die assemblies.</p> |
