A polymer electrolytic fuel cell comprises a hydrogen-ion-conductive polymer electrolytic film and a pair of electrodes sandwiching the film. Each electrode has a catalyst layer in contact with the film and a gas-diffusing layer provided on the catalyst layer. In order to smooth the migration of hydrogen ions and electrons in the catalyst layer, it is effective to vary the mixture ratio of the catalyst particles to the hydrogen-ion-conductive polymer electrolyte in the direction of the thickness of the catalyst layer. However conventionally, it is very difficult practically to vary stepwise the structure of the catalyst layer by screen printing or by transfer. According to the invention, by a production method in which catalyst-layer-forming inks of different mixture ratios of the catalyst particles to the hydrogen-ion-conductive polymer electrolyte are applied to the gas-diffusing layer and the hydrogen-ion-conductive polymer electrolytic film in order, a polymer electrolytic fuel cell where the hydrogen ion conductivity in the catalyst layer is varied in the direction of the thickness of the catalyst layer is produced.
|
