A vertical engine, wherein an oil pan connection face (115) formed on the lower surface of an engine block (11) vertically supporting a crankshaft (15) is extended to the lower side of a cylinder head (12) beyond an extension line (L) extending to the lower side of a cylinder head connection face (114) formed on the rear face of the engine block (11) so as to increase the area of the oil pan connection face (115) without interfering with the cylinder head connection face (114) in order to increase the capacity of an oil pan (411) connected to the oil pan connection face (115), whereby, because the cylinder head connection face (114) does not continue to form the oil pan connection face (115), there is no risk that a seal between these connection faces (114) and (115) has a trouble.
