The invention relates to payments effected by means of emitted cards. According to the invention, a central authority emits physical media comprising codes. A personal identification code and codes for settlement operations are provided on each physical medium which comprises codes. Accounts are opened, whereby said accounts correspond to identification codes. During a cash transfer, the identification code, the code necessary to effect the payment, the recipient and the amount of transfer are communicated to the central authority by the owner of the identification code. After verification of the communicated data, the transfer is effected by said central authority. Each code needed to effect a payment operation and indicated on the physical media for codes is used for only one cash transfer. The card for effecting cash transfers comprises a field where the identification code of the card is written, whereby said code is comprised of at least three symbol positions and at least ten fields for the codes intended for payment operation; each field comprises at least two symbol positions. At least one position of the identification code of the card can be erased by the owner during the use of the card in order to prevent strangers to read the identification code in full.
