The motor includes an armature (4) with a recess, and a pair of bearings (6a,6b) on which the armature is rotatably mounted. A brush, a commutator and the bearing that is nearest to the brush are arranged within the recess so that they are within the axial length of the armature. The commutator may have brush contacts that are arranged radially inwards. The brush (16) faces radially outwards so that it lies in contact with the brush contacts of the commutator.
