The invention relates to a method of determining a candidate condition that is treatable with a chemical composition by (1) providing a relational database comprising phenotype data values and gene expression profile data values, wherein each of the gene expression profile data values is related to at least one phenotype data value, and each of the phenotype data values is associated with a condition in an individual; (2) contacting a cell with the chemical composition; (3) obtaining a test gene expression profile of the cell after the contacting; (4) querying the relational database with the test gene expression profile to obtain a test phenotype; and (5) determining the candidate condition associated with the test phenotype.
