MODIFIED SLOT EXTRUSION DIES

An extrusion die (10a) for the continuous production of fine honeycomb structures having a discharge slot (17) surface finish profile that imparts a uniform and stable extrusion characteristic to the extrusion die (10a) is provided. The extrusion die (10a) comprises feed holes (13) which extend from the die inlet face and intersect with discharge slots (17) at the base of the discharge section. The discharge slots (17) are bounded by side surfaces of pins (19a) that have surface regions which differ in surface rounghness from each other. During extrusion, flow modification results from the presence of multi-textured finishes of the side surfaces.
