The present invention provides a method and system for data transmission in a computer network (200). The method includes sending data with a first structure to a connector (210), the connector coupled between the front-end (202, 204) and the back-end (206, 208), the data being either from the front-end (202, 204) or the back-end (206, 208); and mapping the data to a second structure by the connector (210), such that a change in a configuration of at least one control point at the back-end (206, 208) is transparent to the front-end (202, 204). Messages containing information about control points transmitted between the back-end (206, 208) and the connector (210) are isolated from data points transmitted between the connector (210) and the front-end (202, 204). This transparency provides the network with more flexibility and reduces the cost of operating the network (200). It allows for the front-end to use an open standard.
