In a process for the production of epoxides by the catalytic, liquid-phase reaction of olefins with hydrogen peroxide, the reaction is started by bringing the olefin and peroxide into contact with the catalyst simultaneously and the product solution still adhering to the separated moist catalyst is removed by washing before the catalyst is used again. A process for the production of epoxides (I) by the liquid-phase reaction of olefins with hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) in presence of catalyst and solvent to give a product solution which is largely separated from the catalyst and worked up to give pure (I). In this process, the reaction is started by bringing the olefin and H2O2 into contact with the catalyst simultaneously and the moist catalyst is purified by washing off adherent product solution before it is used again in the reaction.
