The invention relates to a device for optoelectronically scanning documents by pixels and lines. Said device consists of a stationary document support (1) and a mobile scanning mechanism (4) comprising a light source (5), an optoelectronic converter (7) and a scanning objective (6) for forming an image of a scanning line (3) on the optoelectronic converter (7). The scanning mechanism can be moved crosswise to the direction of the scanning line and in the direction of the scanning line in order to detect all of the positions on the document support. The scanning mechanism has an unbent vertical beam path (8) with which an image of the scanning light is formed on the optoelectronic converter (7) without deviation by mirrors. The image scale can be regulated continuously within a broad range by shifting the scanning objective and/or the optoelectronic converter.
