The camshaft has a cam (1), which has a ledeburite joint in the edge zone (3) of its running surface (2). The cam is made of a steel material. The apparent yield point of the steel of the cam is preferably greater than or equal to 450 Newtons per square millimeter. An Independent claim is included for a method to manufacture the camshaft.
