<p>A website (5) on a computer server system (2) contains (for browser access) a database of client recording artists (15), to each of whom is assigned an individual Web page (45b) exhibiting musical works for sale. A shopper (10) browsing the website may evaluate and initiate purchase of one or more recordings directly with the website (5). The website charges each client artist (15) a portion of the price of each purchase made by a shopper (10). The website (5) and its owners take payment, obtain shipping data from the buyer, deduct a website usage fee from the purchase price, and send the purchase order and the client artist's payment to the client artist or client artist's representative. An alternative approach differs from the one described above in that the client artist pays the website (5) a fee for its service, but handles all financial transactions and shipments directly with the shopper and independently of the website. A third approach combines features of the first two. All approaches eliminate website inventory and its management. The same overall process may be used for any other forms of works of art which can be analogously represented by samples on the World Wide Web for shopper evaluation.</p> |
