摘要

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a magnetic recording medium excellent in C-N ratio in a high band and excellent in high density recording. SOLUTION: This magnetic recording medium has a substrate 1 and a magnetic layer 2 disposed on the substrate 1. The magnetic layer 2 is an Fe-N-O layer. The distribution of the concn. of N in the depth direction of the magnetic layer has the max. value N at the middle layer part of the magnetic layer 2, the max. value N is 20-50at.% and a region in which the concn. of N is higher than half of the max. value N1 extends over 100-500Ålength in the depth direction.
