A power cell (44, 46) for mounting in an annular pack (10, 12) for providing power to a downhole tool has a housing shaped to fit within a chamber (11) in the annular pack (10, 12). The power cell (44, 46) has a battery to generate the power and a seal element (66, fig 14) to provide a passage for the electricity from the battery through the housing of the power cell (44, 46). The seal element (66) may be in the form of a glass seal mounted in the cell (44, 46). A strain relief tab (72, fig 20) within the housing may be used to connect the battery to the seal element (66). A spring (88, fig 20) may also be present to bias the battery to one side of the housing when used downhole. |
