The invention concerns a method for reducing nitrate and/or nitric acid concentration in an aqueous solution - also called denox process - by reaction with formic acid or formol wherein said reaction is carried out in heterogeneous catalysis. The treated solutions can, for example, be derived from processes related to nuclear fuel cycles such as nitric acid solutions used for treating radioactive waste, or processes for producing explosive materials or surface treatment processes.
