Mercury-free metal halide lamp comprises a discharge vessel into which electrodes are inserted vacuum-tight. The vessel is filled with an ionizable filling. The filling is made of a noble gas acting as buffer gas, a first group of metal halides (Dy and Ca halides in a molar ratio of 0.1-10) whose boiling point is above 1000 degrees C, and a second group of metal halides (In, Zn, Hf or Zr halides) whose boiling point is below 1000 degrees C. The total gas filling amount of the first group of metal halides is 5-100 mu mol/cm<3>, and the total gas filling amount of the second group of metal halides is 1-50 mu mol/cm<3>. The color temperature is 2700-3500 K and the general fidelity of color index is at least Ra = 90 with a simultaneous red fidelity of color index of R9 = 60. |
