Method for controlling an optoelectronic sensor

The method involves the choice of operating parameters for the sensor, i.e. the threshold value (S1) for the amplitude of the signal received by the sensor which indicates the presence of an object in the area monitored. Several threshold values (So - S3) are set at which, if the signal received by the sensor is above or below these thresholds it initiates a switching signal. The number (n0-n3) of switching signals related to each threshold value is determined and the threshold values are adjusted or reset accordingly
