A cyclic redundancy check is calculated in a pipelined processor using a software process on independent data streams (30) that performs contemporaneous accesses to a CRC look-up table. Because the CRC is processing independent data streams, the latencies in reading a CRC value from the look-up table is effectively diminished. <IMAGE>
