PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable installation of a muffler having a larger volume than before in the case that a space of a vehicle body provided with the muffler is the same volume as before, by improving the muffler provided in an exhaust system of an engine. SOLUTION: In a vehicle engine, one end of an inlet pipe 10 is connected to an exhaust pipe of the engine, one end of an outlet pipe 11 is open to the air, and the other ends of the inlet pipe 10 and the outlet pipe 11 are respectively inserted in a tube-like muffler 1 laterally mounted in a vehicle body and are communicated. The other end of the outlet pipe 11 is inserted from a tube wall of the muffler 1. Compared to a conventional muffler wherein the other end of the outlet pipe 11 is inserted from a bottom plate 4, the muffler 1 can be enlarged by drawing-around portion of the outlet pipe 11.
