PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an operation judgement device for a float type oil-water separator capable of safely and accurately judging the operation state of the oil-water separator. SOLUTION: The free float type oil-water separator 20 is constituted so that a casing having a valve section 3 inside is formed by fastening a cap body 2 to a main body having an inlet 4 and an outlet 6 and a waster discharge valve opening 7 provided on the lower side wall of the valve section 3 is opened and closed by a float 9 arranged in the valve section 3. An ultrasonic transmitter receiver 14 is attached to the bottom outside surface of the valve section 3 of the free float type oil-water separator 20 and connected to a control operator 15. The position of the float 9 is detected from the time required for the ultrasonic to be returned after being emitted upward from the ultrasonic transmitter receiver 14 and reflected from the float 9 and if the position of the float 9 is higher than the prescribed position, the discharge capacity is judged and shown to be small.
