PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a scavenger for active oxygen which has excellent active oxygen- scavenging action and is useful for cosmetics or food both effective in amelioration of the rough dry skin, prophylaxis of aging such as wrinkle formation and prevention of damage of the hair/scalp by including a specific plant extract. SOLUTION: This scavenger comprises (A) yucca extract, and preferably additionally (B) at least one kind selected from the group consisting of scutellaria root extract and peppermint extract as well. The formulation weight ratio of the component A to the component B is preferably (1/9) to (9/1), especially preferably (3/7) to (8/2). Both the subterranean part and the aboveground part of a yucca can be used as an extraction raw material for the component A. Any parts of flower, branch, stem, root, the entirety of plants as raw materials may be used as the component B. Both the components A and B can be obtained by crushing each of the raw materials into a properly adequate size and then extraction-treating the crushed product with water, a hydrophilic organic solvent or these mixture. The weight quantity consumed of the extraction solvent suitably is around 3 to 10 times as much as extraction raw materials. |
